3 SEPTEMBER 2024 — WARRNAMBOOL, AUSTRALIA -  tikpay in collaboration with Warrnambool Bus Lines is making transit ticketing and payments seamless. Travellers can tap-to-travel on a Transit South West bus with a payment card or digital wallet, enabling them to quickly board the bus and be charged the best fare for their daily travel. Unassisted tap-to-travel, assisted ticket purchase and cash is now available on 27 buses across Transit South West and inter-town Warrnambool Bus Lines' services.

With unassisted tap-to-travel, travellers can now tap on with their Visa or Mastercard credit, debit, or prepaid card on the card reader and take their seat. When disembarking, they simply tap off and the fare is automatically calculated and charged at the end of the day based on their actual travel. Melbourne-based tikpay and Warrnambool Bus Lines partnered with Australian company TransportMe for the driver console, Westpac as the merchant banker and Visa / Cybersource as the payment gateway to make seamless payments a reality for Warrnambool public transport users.

Warrnambool Bus Lines’ Managing Director, Sam Lucas says, “We are proud to be working with innovative Australian start-ups, tikpay and TransportMe, to provide giant leaps in convenience and world-class payment options to our customers. Get on board and try it out!”.

What tap-to-travel delivers for travellers is convenience, flexibility and choice as to how they use the bus in Warrnambool. Travellers can now tap on with their Visa or Mastercard credit, debit, or prepaid card on the card reader and take their seat. When disembarking, they simply tap off and the fare is automatically calculated and charged at the end of the day based on their actual travel.  Registered students and other concession card holders can use an existing payment card to tap on and off whilst still receiving concession fares, with traditional ticket purchases using card or cash from the driver remaining an option.

Westpac Head of Merchant Payments, Joel Lenhardt, said: “We're excited to help provide Warrnambool residents a simpler and more convenient way to pay on public transport and to support regional cities with this transformation into tap-to-travel.”

By bringing this convenience to travellers to be able to pay how and when they prefer, Warrnambool Bus Lines has delivered faster, simpler boarding which aids in encouraging tourists and the local community alike to utilise public transport.
