CDC Queensland has implemented tikpay’s account-based ticketing and payments solution across its services in Rockhampton, Yeppoon and Gladstone, making travel simpler and more seamless for public transport users across the region.

What’s launched

Tap -on / Tap-off ticketing

Travellers can simply tap-on / tap-off the bus with their contactless payment card (Visa / Mastercard) or digital wallet (Google Wallet / Apple Pay / Samsung Pay) to pay for travel. The traveller’s fare is calculated based on their actual usage of all bus services throughout a given day and is automatically charged to their payment account at the end of the day.

Driver-assisted ticketing

Travellers can board the bus by purchasing a ticket directly from the driver with a contactless payment card or digital wallet. There is one key difference being that there is no requirement to wait for a transaction approval  - making boarding faster.

The solution is live across all of CDC’s scheduled bus routes in Central Queensland, enhancing community connectivity and offering a better travel experience for locals and tourists alike.

Why travellers love it

Convenient

  • Fast, tap-on ticketing without the need to purchase a ticket with the driver
  • No need to carry cash
  • No need to show any form of additional ticketing, such as a paper ticket, school pass, or concession card
  • Reduce waiting time for a transaction approval as payment is processed later that day
  • Easy access to travel history through the traveller portal

Key Results

transportme Integration

Students tap their transportme smart card onto the PAX A910s validator when boarding and exiting the bus. tikpay is seamlessly integrated with transportme, sending smart card tap data in real time to the transport driver console, where balance validation and updates are automatically performed.

This integration ensures a consistent, intuitive experience for travellers - whether they are tapping on with a contactless payment card, digital wallet, or transportme smart card.
